Dear Parents/Guardians,

Let me begin by letting you know that I miss the students and the staff at Anderson, and I cannot wait for things to return to normal as we know normal to be. We are concerned for our students’ health and well-being, as well as their families. Although we have not been in this position before, experiencing a pandemic, the Anderson family of students, parents, educators, county and community leaders, and all other stakeholders, has quickly risen to the occasion.  We would like to thank everyone for your kindness and support during this challenging time in our lives.

As you know, Anderson takes pride in their students and what we do as educators. The next few weeks will not be easy. There will be mistakes, problems and concerns along the way. However, there will be more successes, happiness, hope, laughter, fun and purpose. We understand many of you are still working and have several children to help, financial concerns, health issues, etc.  We are here to patiently support our students and you throughout this challenging time.  Please do not stress over the school work via distance learning or printed packets. Frustrations are high due to our circumstances, and we don’t want to increase the stress on our families. We are going to do our best to provide schoolwork to keep our students' minds moving forward. But you are the parents, and they are with you, so you have control to adjust as needed for your child/children.

Next, there are several Extended Learning opportunities that have been provided for students.  Google Classrooms and Class DoJo have been made available where students can do work online.  These two sites also allow for the teacher to communicate with the students.  If you look on the Anderson’s webpage, you will see additional sites for students to go on to get additional practice with all content areas.  Ms. Leonard, the media specialist, has story time online where she reads a book and has discussions. We do understand that not all students have access to technology so paper packets were sent home with students for the different content areas as well as consumable workbooks such as i-Ready reading and math and workbooks in social studies and science.

Please contact your child’s teacher via email, or you can leave a message on the teacher’s webpage.  Feel free to contact the teacher by phone if you have the teacher’s phone number. We also ask for your patience and understanding as we travel this new territory, too.  We are still Allies for your child’s Education.

Finally, there are many questions about how extended school closures will affect school life, such as feeding students, grades, attendance, and state testing.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

1.    CYBERSAFETY:  Please monitor your students with their online activities as students may be online more than usual due to Extended Learning. There are bad people that want to take advantage of us in our new "digital" distance classrooms and increased “free” digital time. We must be diligent in ensuring they are not allowed to invade the world of our children.

2.     Grades:

We do not want to be punitive during this difficult time.  Students who are not able to complete work and assignments will not receive a “F” or incomplete. We have to focus on learning and not giving out grades. We encourage all our students to participate in the Extending Learning process so that learning can still take place.

3.     Absence:
Again, we do not want this to be a punitive process so attendance will not count during the time we are out due to the virus.

4.     State Assessment Suspended:

The Georgia Milestones (GMAS) has been suspended.

5.     Grab and Go Food:

CCPS is provided food at designated schools.  Please see the Anderson webpage for the school sites that are participating in the Grab and Go Food.
