           A Note from the Teacher

Welcome to Second Grade!  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, comments or  concerns regarding your child. Feel free to send me a note or e-mail. I will return your message as soon as possible.

Also, be sure to check your child’s folder each day for important events and announcements. Your support at home is appreciated and necessary for a great school year.

Our goal is to provide an atmosphere and environment that is conducive for quality teaching and learning where each child is valued for his/her unique attributes and is an active member of our classroom community.

Important info...

Accelerated Reader (AR) Information

AR is a county-wide reading program which encourages and motivates students to read books at school and home and earn points by taking computerized comprehension tests at school.

Your child picks a book at his own level and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.)

Progress Folders - are sent home every 3 weeks. I will send updates in between those times. If you would like to see specific assignments, please let me know.

Conduct – Your child will have the chance to earn rewards in class for positive behavior. Consequences will be issued as needed. A letter will be sent home further explaining our classroom management system.

Conferences- Parent/Teacher Conferences are held twice each year. More information will follow. Please feel free to get in contact with me anytime to discuss concerns or answer any questions you may have.

Birthdays - You may send in a treat such as Pretzel bites, cupcakes, Munchkins, brownies or cookies. These treats will be distributed during our lunch time. Please make sure that ALL treats are nut free.

Volunteers- Anyone who is interested in lending a hand or sharing a special talent or story, please let me know.  We have many opportunities to help out at home or in school.  Look for information about volunteering in future mailings.
