Classroom

Hello Pre-K Pirates’ Families,

My name is Karen Buchanan and I am so blessed to be your child’s prekindergarten teacher this year.  I have an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, a duel B.S degree in Early Childhood Education/Special Education, a Master degree in Early Childhood Education/Special Education. I’m currently pursuing my EDS degree in Teacher Leadership from none other than Mercer University. Go Bears!  When I’m not busy planning lesson or working on coursework, you can find me enjoying a book or spending time with my family and friends. I am married to a wonderful man and have three great children.
I anticipate a very busy and enriching year with your child. We will be following Georgia’s Pre-K Program Content Standards “We Can” which provide the foundation for instruction in all Georgia’s Pre-K classrooms. What is taught in Pre-K lays the foundation for expectations in Kindergarten. Keep in mind that these standards should reflect what children should know at the end of the Pre-K year---not at the beginning.  You can view the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards on the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning Bright from the Start’s website http://www.decal.ga.gov.

I have high expectations for all my students, and I hope that you will encourage your child at home by participating as much as possible in your child’s education.  Each Thursday, there will be skill practice activities in your Pirates’ binder. I highly encourage parental involvement, as it enhances your child’s educational experience and keeps you well-informed of the activities in our classroom. We also will have lots of parent volunteer opportunities. I and your child will be thrilled to have you here in our classroom!
I look forward to working with you this school year! Go Pirates' Parents!!!!
Sincerely,
Karen Buchanan
